Transnational Clients

When your life, your business or your wealth connect the United States with another country.

Owning businesses, property, assets or family responsibilities in the U.S. can create different protection needs when your residence, your family or part of your wealth sit in another jurisdiction. At Bermeo Insurance we start by understanding that structure and reviewing which insurable needs may exist.

Who is it for?

Four situations, one question: what would need to keep working?

  • Business owners

If you were gone, which obligations of your business and your family would carry on?

People with a business interest in the United States and family or wealth responsibilities across countries. Their death can create financial needs for both the family and the business. Whole Life can be considered when there is a real need for life protection or liquidity tied to the owner, their family or certain business responsibilities.

  • Real estate investors

Owning property is one thing. Having liquidity when it is needed is another.

Would your family have liquidity available without having to sell a property right away? For eligible clients with real estate in the United States, Whole Life can be considered to provide life protection and a source of liquidity at death.

    • Life insurance does not protect the value or the return of a property, and it does not guarantee tax, legal, estate or investment outcomes.
  • Investors with U.S. assets

If you were gone tomorrow, would there be enough liquidity independent of your assets?

Residence, citizenship, domicile, the make-up of one's wealth, how it is owned and family responsibilities vary greatly from one person to another. Whole Life can be considered for certain life protection and liquidity-at-death needs when the client meets the applicable requirements.

  • Families with wealth across countries

When the family is in one place and part of what you built is in another.

A family may live outside the United States and keep property, businesses or other assets here, or live in the U.S. and keep wealth in another country. Does your current planning take into account where the people who depend on you are, and where your wealth is?

The insurance solution

Whole Life Insurance

For certain eligible transnational clients, Whole Life Insurance can be considered as part of a strategy for life protection and liquidity at death. Depending on the individual need, it may be considered to:

  • Provide financial protection for the family.
  • Create a source of liquidity at death.
  • Meet certain financial responsibilities that continue after death.
  • Support family or business continuity needs.
  • Be part of legacy planning where appropriate.
Availability is subject to eligibility, underwriting, residence, jurisdiction, documentation, carrier requirements and policy terms.

How we work

Five steps, in this order.

First the person and their structure. Then the need. Only at the end, the policy.

  1. Woman smiling in front of a cathedral
The need does not start with a policy. It starts with a responsibility.

    Understand

Your residence, your family, your business.

We look at where you live, where the people who depend on you are, and what businesses, assets and responsibilities you have on each side.

    • Residence and ties to each country
    • Family and dependents
    • Businesses and business interests
    • Property and other U.S. assets
  2. Signpost pointing to destinations in different countries
If something changed tomorrow, what would need to keep working?

    Identify

    Which insurable need really exists.

We look for the obligations that would continue and the people who would need a source of liquidity. If there is no insurable need, we tell you that too.

  3. Professional reviewing plans on a computer
No eligibility is automatic: every case is reviewed.

    Evaluate

Whether Whole Life can play a part.

We review whether Whole Life can meet that need and whether you meet the corresponding eligibility and underwriting requirements.

  4. Traveller looking out over a coastal city at sunset
Every decision in the right hands.

    Coordinate

Each professional in their own field.

Legal, tax, accounting or estate matters are handled with your own professionals. Bermeo Insurance handles the insurance component.

    • Your attorney

    • Your accountant or tax advisor

    • Bermeo: the insurance

  5. Traveller in front of a coastal town at sunset
Life protection and liquidity for the people who depend on you.

    Implement

Only when the solution is appropriate.

The policy is put in place when the solution is appropriate, available and approved through underwriting.
